VS 2010 Word automation help - which reference, .Net or COM?

I want to connect to Word from one of my applications to do some automation, but I'm not sure which reference to add. There is a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word assembly under the .Net tab and a Microsoft Word 15.0 Object Library reference under the COM tab. Can I use either one? What is the difference & which is the preferred one? Thanks...
